Folksonomy

With the advent of internet, the gurus have diligently striven to merge technologies together to come up with innovative methods that will let us manage, distinguish and organize complex information and objects with just a few clicks. Web 2.0 has expanded internet’s scope of possibilities from being One-way Street to the point of interaction between different worlds (literally), where you could share immense firsthand information with the world transforming it into factual knowledge for others. Folksonomy is exactly the phrase that sums it up to define the Social Media boom that we are witnessing, a trend and a platform where information is channelized and shared.

Folksonomy is the way people classify and categorize information on the web through tagging. As the tags achieve prominence through software that allows users to interact and share data, it becomes a system of classification for an entire community rather than a single person. The search engines receive a higher number of marking in form of tags which highlight a particular key word in that website. In return every link, tag and heading is counted as a vote in search engines. Thus, optimizing the relevance of that website and bringing it to the top of the table.

Internet Social Marketing is on the rise and Search Engine Optimization is the key to success for any website out there to make the most out of everything they put on their page. A good web design with impeccable functionality is important but an intelligently placed content, blogs and tags will result in achieving better ranking on the World Wide Web. Hence, looking for a firm that caters and ensures that top ranking along with a remarkable design can be an uphill task to find the right combination. So here at Net4Sale we provide all the ingredients that promise immaculate designs and smart placements of Folksonomy for the community in a web page securing top positions in your related field of expertise.

Common Mistakes Made in Web Design

3

The main reason you would have set up a Web site would be to generate hits. This holds true for company web sites, blogs, ecommerce sites, etc. and it is particularly important for a small business. Maybe you are getting hits, but it does not translate to the kind of traffic you need for your business. So, what do you do next?

You can check out your Web site statistics, and maybe you will see a pattern emerging. Do all your visitors exit the site immediately after viewing the home page? If they do, something is radically wrong with your Web design. A developer with insufficient experience can make a lot of mistakes that can result in chasing visitors away from your site. This would make building the Web site an exercise in futility. You will be glad to know that there are others who share this problem with you. You will be even gladder to know that this problem can be solved – fairly economically and easily.

Here are some of the key problem areas in the Web design of Web sites built by inexperienced developers:

1. Abuse of Multimedia

Multimedia undoubtedly enhances a web site and makes it that much more attractive for site viewers than using plain text and images. However, using audio, video or animation can create obstacles for visitors to a web site if the Web design has not been properly implemented.

The other problem is that all visitors to your site will not have the same kind of connection speed, plug-ins, screen resolution or browser as you have. In other words, you need to take all these factors into account. The navigation on your web site should ideally not be in Flash (animation) and you should stick to images or text. Nothing is more discouraging than to visit a web site and being faced by a lot of X’s with no navigation options. Even if you let your audience download Flash, they just might find it easier to visit your competitors site. So another prospective customer bites the dust due to ineffective Web design.

How to write a killer sales copy for your website

7

The quality of your sales copy is just as important as your product. It wouldn’t matter even if you had the best product/offer in the world if your sales copy can’t persuade the prospects to buy your product(s)

There are several components of your sales copy that you need to pay close attention to:

Your headline: The headline is the most important part of your sales copy. Your headline should capture the attention of the visitors and suck them into the body of your sales copy.

Remember that you have only ten seconds at most to capture the attention of your prospects or they will simply click away. You can easily achieve that by having the greatest benefit of your product in the headline of your sales copy.

You can also include a startling revelation/fact or a warning to capture the attention of your prospects and keep them reading.

Put simply, the headline should be benefit driven, attention grabbing and made to persuade the reader of your sales copy to keep reading.

Bullets: You should use bullets to highlight the benefits of your product(s). You see, most people will not read the sales copy but rather skim through it and bullets enable you to focus their attention on the benefits of your product.

Benefits Vs features: Focus on the benefits of using your product as opposed to the features of your product. For example, the phrase “comfortable mattress” describes a feature but “Wake up relaxed and ready to face the day ahead” goes further to show the benefits of the feature. Don’t assume the prospect already knows.

Bolding and highlighting: Use bolding and highlighting to emphasize important points or phrases. Highlighting in yellow always seems to work best. However, don’t overdo it or you will lose the intended purpose in the first place.

Call to action: You should have a strong call to action throughout your sales copy. For example, you can include such calls to action as “Click here to unlock your potential right now!” or “Click here to discover the secrets now!” You should also create a sense of urgency so that your prospects are motivated to take action right away.

Writing a good sales copy is one thing that you must invest your time to learn and practice if you are to make good money online. Of course it takes some time to perfect your sales copy writing but one thing is also that you can always get better if you are willing to take action and learn progressively.

Secrets of a Killer Headline for Website Pages

3

Most people don’t even put a headline on their website pages. And this is one of the biggest copywriting mistakes I see. Why do I say that?

Because research shows you have 3-5 seconds to convince a visitor that you have the solution to their problem. If there’s no headline at the top of the page to grab their attention, their eyes will begin to wander all over the page trying to decide what to look at. If they haven’t figured out in that 3-5 seconds of wandering around that you’ve got their solution, they are going to click out and move to the next site in the Google SERPs.

“But I tell them all about my great widgets and all the wonderful things they can do in my page copy.”

And there’s another part of the problem. There’s an old saying in marketing. “People don’t buy the drill; they buy the hole.” In other words, they simply don’t care about your company or your widget. They just want to know if you understand their problem and can solve it.

Advertising Opportunities to Avoid

You’ve probably been in business long enough to realize that services promising a huge swarm of traffic to your web site are usually a scam. After all, “targeted traffic” (people who want your product, service, or information) is the only thing that really counts. Ten qualified potential buyers are worth more than 1000 visitors who have no interest in your business.

That part is obvious. So you write these off, file them under “Dirtbags” in the cabinets of your mind and go about your business, right? Not so fast, because there are further implications you may not have considered.

Recently, a small business forum I participate in as an administrator received an interesting new member. This person came in like a boisterous, drunk party guest trying to pass himself off as a highly successful search engine expert. One of the methods he advocated was using traffic generating services to boost search engine ranking.

Creating a Table of Contents Generator in PHP

1

Recently i had to create a “Table of Contents” Aka “Contents” Generator for Brugbart. I was inspired by several other websites who provides similar functionality through JavaScript, i just don’t like JavaScript, mainly because i find it difficult to get it to work equally cross-browser, without having to first check if the browser supports the functions.

Anyway i decided that it was about time, that i included a Contents Generator, to make it easier for users to navigate in our Articles, Tutorials and References. I first tried to use php DOM, but i had two problems, i had no idea about how to work with the DOM, later i found the second problem, my host apparently didn’t support the DOM functions.

That was where i decided to return to the familiar territory of regular expressions.

Webdesigners develop relationships by offering hosting

6

There are thousands of webhosting companies offering a myriad of options. It can be extremely difficult for your web design clients to indentify which offer truly does offer good value for money and the features that they require. As a web designer you are probably going to be one of your clients first ports of call in regards to advice about choosing a webhosting company.

Customers like things kept simple and if they have one port of call for all their requirements, they will thank you for it. As a webdesigner there can be many benefits to hosting your clients site. So why not consider offering free hosting to your clients as part of your webdesign package. This adds value to your service, they may consider it $200 or more in savings. This makes your webdesign proposal far more attractive.

You can also consider charging for web hosting and including some basic updates in a quarterly price. This helps create a dialogue and an opportunity to get first-look at any new web design work that your client may have. I am not suggesting that you go out and setup a dedicated server. Even if you know enough to setup one dedicated server that is not enough to run a reliable webhosting operation. You need plenty of time and resources to do it properly.
