Demo RedSteel | Download RedSteel

If you choose to use Red Steel as your theme, it will quickly grab the attention of visitors to your blog by prominently displaying samples of your featured posts at the top of your blog. Below the header, the theme gives your blog a social splash by displaying your latest Tweet, as well as links to Facebook, Digg and other popular social media websites.

The contrast between the background of the theme and the background of the content makes it easy for visitors to read your blog’s posts. The theme also helps you make as much money as possible from your blog by not only displaying 468×60 ad units in your most recent posts, but by also giving you space for four 125×125 ad units at the top of the right column.

To show featured posts, create a separate category and put all posts you want to feature in that category. Select this separate category from the drop down in theme options page.

To show image in featured posts, create a custom field called “thumbnail” and post a link to 318×215 px image in its value.

Thanks John, great theme, I’m using it for my blog http://straightpunch.com/ , keep up the good work.

This is a lovely looking theme but I have a few questions:

- How is the featured post determined? There’s a check box to “feature” a post but perhaps it takes a particular category? Is there a limit to the number of featured posts?

How do you get the featured post image to show?

OK, I got that one sorted – how do I change what’s in the sidebar? I don’t want my archive to be a list, I’d prefer a drop down or even better to remove it and put something else there

OK that sorted too – just put what you want into the sidebar using the widgets section and it’ll override what is there

So, Sparkly can you briefly describe how you got the featured post image into the header box?

IT’ S POSSIBLE TO PUT ALL THE POSTS IN THE FEATURED ARTICLES WHATEVER THE CATEGORY

THANS FOR YOU THEME.

GREAT JOB

I REALLY APPRECIATE

Yes – just set up another category called featured and put them all in that as well as their normal ones.

How do I change the “readmore” on the featured posts to say “Read More”???

Download again and check, i fixed it recently

Nice theme. Trying to use it on a site for a client, but it appears to be broken in WordPress 3.0.1. Any plans for an update soon?

Broken as in?

Will you please give more specific instructions about how to get an image in the the featured post area? I added a custom field, but how do I put a link to a picture in it?
I would love a more user (non-webdesigner) friendly way to make that happen, if and when you upgrade the theme.
Thank you for your time and your theme.

I really like this theme. I like so much that I spent a couple of hours to fix the theme to run on WordPress 3.0.1 on Windows Server 2008 R2.

Jquery file is missing in the zip file.

The menu does not render correctly in WordPress 3.0.1. Seems to be the same on Windows and Linux. The problem is that the there is no mainmenu class in the menu tag. Just a menu class. My quick fix was to add an extra div around the menu with a class name of mainmenu.

php on Windows requires not just otherwise I got an Internal Server Error. I changed this in search.php and header.php. I’m not a php programmer so I can’t explain this, just report my findings.

If you want me to test something let me now. Good luck and thank you again for a great theme.

Is anyone else having issues with the navigation bar not showing up right? Instead of the navigation bar going across the screen it is in a small vertical on the right in very small dark text.

create menu in “menus” under “appearance” in dashboard.

There is no date on each post

How do I get an image to show in the featured posts box?

As explained above, create a custom field called “thumbnail” and post a link to 318×215 px image in its value.

exactly how to slide show photos of their posts – please tell in detail

Thanks John for such a great theme with so many awesome new features. Keep up the good work.

Nice theme!

got this errors soon as i activated the theme on wordpress 3.0.2

in the site “Parse error: syntax error, unexpected $end in D:program filesxampphtdocsattiwp-contentthemesRedSteelheader.php on line 112

in the back end “Warning: Cannot modify header information – headers already sent by (output started at D:program filesxampphtdocsattiwp-contentthemesNewsOneincludestheme-optionssetup.php:14) in D:program filesxampphtdocsattiwp-includespluggable.php on line 890″

had similar issue with news one theme any ideas

At the end of the file wp-contentthemesRedSteelheader.php, replave any line that is:

and replace it with:

That fixed it for me.

Having same problem as Adrian. Dave’s fix is not visible here. Can you post it again, Dave?

Great theme. Thanks! For some reason the menu/main navigation wasn’t formatted for me. Everything came as one long list, so I added styles to the style.css file to format it with drop-downs for sub pages. If you like, feel free to add it to your stylesheet.

.menu {
width: 400px;
height: 20px;
margin: 4px;
padding: 0;
float: left;
clear: both;
}

.menu ul {
margin: 0;
padding: 0;
}

.menu ul li {
float: left;
clear: none;
font: normal 11px Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;
padding: 2px 10px;
border-right: 1px solid #fff;
list-style: none;
position: relative;
background: #eee;
}

.menu ul li ul {
position: absolute;
top: 0;
left: 0;
display: none;
width: 100px;
margin: 0;
padding: 22px 0 0 0;
}

.menu ul li:hover ul {
display: block;
}

.menu ul li ul li {
float: left;
clear: both;
width: 100px;
background: #eee;
margin: 0;
border: 1px solid #fff;
border-collapse: collapse;
}

If you create a menu in dashboard, it will work fine.
Dashboard->Appearence->Menus

How do I create a custom field?

hey hows it going i just downloaded this theme and i like it but I have 3 questions for you.

1) how do i add the custom tweets below the header??

2)how can i get rid of the partner links??

3) instead of having text for the name of the site i would like to use a logo, how do i do that ??

I am new to wp but just thought i would see if you could help .

Thanks

Sorry about that the only thing I really need to know is how to add images to the featured scroll in the header. I saw some post related to it but i tried and nothing happened. Can you please list some steps.

Thanks

Quick Questions…. How do you add the “Continue Reading” button to your theme? I also want to add the page navigation at the bottom of the theme also.

Thank You,

The Skype Dude!

Hi mate.

I’ve succeeded to add a button with “Continue Reading” on my customization, but I dont know if i can put the code here…. sorry

I love your theme! Thanks so much.
One quick question. I’ve changed the sizes of the fonts in the rotating header and now I would like for the header to show more copy rather than truncating on such few characters. I can’t find where to override the truncating. Can you help?

@Redsteel devs

hi folks…

well… I just loved your theme, but it was missing some nice functions, like a button “Continue reading”, small boxes to featured posts, and so on. But i came here to ask you something. If i leave the page this theme open much more than 30min, the featured posts on header (the big one) starts to act like crazy and you cant even read that. Try it to see…. I think should be some errors on js… but i couldnt find where…. Is there any way to fix it?

thanks! =)
